Achieving the Golden State was an interesting read. It is not at all the type of book I usually look for or read, but read it I did. There were several times that I didn't not entirely understand what was going on, or had difficulty following the story, yet I keep reading through to the end. I wanted to figure it out, I wanted to know what happened next. It takes a very special type of book to do that, to make you want to continue reading.

Irregardless of fame or notoriety, you can tell when a writer has left a piece of him or herself in the book. A real piece. When someone writes so intently that soulprints, like fingerprints, are left then you are given two gifts--a story, and an introduction to an authors real mind.

Like a portal into the subconscious, this book was a macabre dive into the unknown. From the beginning I was reading about regular people who evolved nicely into something more...yet they stayed true to their roles, as dark as some of those roles were.

Their personalities stayed stable and true while their deeper powers didn't own them. What I mean is that when some writers add mystical elements to their stories, the powers and magic become all the story is about. They drown the characters. Not this story. Not at ALL. In fact, it got more insane and twisted the further I read. I had to read one section twice because it was so intense.

The story starts out on the road, and you get the idea that these travelers are not ordinary humans. Though, from their encounters with people, they show more depth in character than any of them.

Dark, macabre war beneath the flip-side of the reality you look at every day. There is lots of real, believable (yay)dialog, You get to truly enter the minds of each character, and its perfect.

I don't normally leave reviews but sometimes a good book comes up that I want to share. I HIGHLY highly suggest giving this book a read, give it a few pages and it will draw you in. It was a nice break away from the cliche books that seem to be popping up all over the place.

If you like dark, paranormal fantasy action thrillers you will LOVE THIS!!!
