Hi-Dong Chai was born in Seoul, Korea and educated in the U.S. with a Ph.D. in engineering. He worked nineteen year for IBM and taught engineering at San Jose State University for 15 years before retiring in 2002.
He was recognized as a leading authority of magnetic actuator design. He published extensively in the field of magnetic aspects of electromechanical devices including a book, Electromechanical Motion Devices, Prentice Hall. He received seven U.S. patents and had numerous inventions published in the IBM Invention Disclosure Bulletin.
Since retiring in 2002, he has directed his time and effort to creative writing.
My Truest Hope was published in the 2012 August issue of the Guideposts magazine. Other articles appeared on the Writers Talk, Monthly Newsletter of the South Bay Writers Club. Also Cherry Blossom and Bayonet coauthored with Jana McBurney-Lin was e-published on Kindle, Smashwords.com and Barnes and Noble in October, 2012; Jana has turned the life of his family under Japan during World War II into a historical novel. In January, 2013, he e-published a short love story, Cindy and a Korean Boy. Currently he is working on his autobiographical fiction, Shattered by the Wars, that details his life under Japan and during the Korean War.
