I liked this book so much better than the first one in the series! I can't really put my finger on why, though. Somehow, I cared more about these characters and was more interested in their plight. I thought this one was somehow more believable and definitely creepier. There was a lot more action and romance to maintain my attention. I could see all of it unfolding as if I was watching a more modern horror movie. Perhaps it even reminded me a bit of some that I have seen lately, though it definitely is its own story.

This is one hell of a ghost story. I unfortunately did not have the chance to read the first in this series, but while most series are a straight continuation, this one seems to not be. If I had my guess, I would say the S.P.I.R.I.T unit in this one may be the only link to the first book.
I find only three or four minor spelling errors in the whole book, which is pretty long considering it took me the whole day to read this one.
The story is engaging and a bit frightening really. It's definitely a must read for any fan of Clive Barker's work.
The way this story ends is semi cliff hanging and I do hope book 3 will be the continuation of it so they can finally find what they were looking for to begin with.
I give this book 4 of 5 paws

Malevolent Gateway by Dawn Gray was an intriguing ghost story. It takes place in a small town where evil is causing people to be mysteriously dragged into the swamp and never seen again. The S.P.I.R.I.T. team is called in to investigate and they meet Blake and Anna, locals who have ties to the spirit world and have knowledge about the town and the evil in it.
The story is interesting and has several scary parts. There's also a romance or two developing throughout the story. The characters were well developed and each character had a lot of personality.
I know that this is part of a series but I liked that it could be read as a stand alone novel. This story was a complete story, but it made me interested in the rest of the series and what other adventures the S.P.I.R.I.T team is involved in.

First off, let me state that I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Malevolent Gateway by Dawn Gray is a very well written book. I'm not much into horror stories, but I do like the paranormal genre. This story was a bit of both. This book is independent from her first book in the S.P.I.R.I.T. series, and the reader doesn't need to read the first one, Fire Storm, in order to enjoy this one.
The characters in this book are so down to Earth, and they mesh well together. Anna, Blake, Will, Evan, and even Skyler, all bring this story to life. The addition of Zander, from Fire Storm, adds an extra element of suspense to this story. This story is set in a small town, on the outskirts of a marsh, where people tend to disappear. Two of the main characters, Anna and Blake, live here, and the S.P.I.R.I.T. team is sent in to assess the situation, and dispel the evil there. The team works diligently, and come across many twists and turns they don't expect! Not only does this book have an element of horror and suspense, but there is also some steamy romance! This book is definitely something I would recommend for someone who likes spooky paranormal reading material!!

I read Malevolent Gateway by Dawn Gray. I recommend this book if you like scary books. I do not like to read scary books, so this was a little out of my comfort zone. I really loved some aspects of it. Being that I read book #1, Fire Storm, I thought I knew the characters, but the author went in a different direction than I thought and I love that. She did bring back a character from the last book! I love the fire in this book and the end of chapter 12 is hot! This is very well written and flows very well.
This book is about people getting killed in marshlands in Vermont. This has been happening for so long no one remembers when it started. Anna, a girl who grew up there, can talk to ghosts. She gets a call from one calling her back there. The governments special ops paranormal team S.P.I.R.I.T. comes in town to figure out what's going on and try to stop it. Anna meets with her life long friend, Blake, that still lives there and has his own specials "gifts" and they try to check on what the SPIRIT team is doing. They eventually work together to figure out all the details and really dig into this mystery. What they find has roots back 200 years and are at a loss to solve this mystery. Ghosts help and scare them along the way. Just when you think this book is finished and all is at rest, that's when things start to happen again.
