The first kill isn't long enough to develop the characters so I don't know how to view it. Editing was o.k. but in this length how could it not be. Interesting, but I want to see a full length story line to judge the character and the author.

Although this short teaser is not available as a Kindle download I downloaded it as a PDF and read it. Since it is just a snippet of a story it's very hard to rate. The main character is an unrepentant killer and it will be interesting to learn what the author does with him. The writing is good and the editing is good. I don't rate a "good" story or a story with possibility as a five star. So this is a four at best.

Yes, I agree with the other reviewers: this is not for the squeamish. But if you enjoy crime dramas like Dexter , this series of books may be for you. I liked the way this story clip was driven foreword by dialogue.

Wow, this was a powerful short story based on characters from the two Michael Sykora novels - No Justice and Beyond Salvation. It was really well written with well-drawn characters. Having read some of the author's full-length books, I shouldn't have been surprised by how powerful this was. I haven't read the Michael Sykora novels yet but have just downloaded them as this story left me intrigued and wanting to know more!

Darcia Helle's "The First Kill" is not for the faint of heart. This is a brief, but graphic, crime story reminiscent of British gangster films. Her main character, Sean, is an assassin for hire ... and he is plying his art with aplomb in this tale.

Crime fiction fans should investigate this story.

As a first time reader of Darcia's work, all I can say is I was wow'd by the depth of the character and how quickly the reader is drawn into the story. If this is a sample of the rest of her writing, then she has found a new reader.

A skillfully written crime short story, taking a minor character from Darcia's Michael Sykora series of novels, and giving him the spotlight. Sean Riley is a man with a dark past and this story shows just what effect his past has had on the way he now lives his life. If you like crime fiction, you'll love the way Darcia Helle writes. This character oozes pure evil, and the dialogue-driven prose helps to give the reader the impression that they are a fly on the wall witnessing this brutal scene. Definitely not a story for the fainthearted!

This is a great read, the characters are so believable its hard to think they aren't real. Or are they?

Darcia proves, whether short form or novel, she writes with a ferocious talent.
