Excerpt: “Did we really drink all this?” she asked, as she blinked, trying to take in the bottles of wine that they ordered.
“Yes,” her new friend said. Eddie, was his name, and he was just as tipsy as she. “Is it already 11:45? I should have been gone a long time ago.”
“Are you going to get in trouble?” She frowned. She didn’t want him to leave, but it would do no good should he get fired.
He waved a hand, dismissing her question. “Oh, no. My boss is one of my boyfriends.”
She laughed, amazed, but also inspired by his nonchalance. In any other context of life, she would think his indifference was an act, a ploy of strength when in fact, he was weak. But maybe in some odd way, the fact that he did not care about his boyfriends gave him strength that she could only dream of. Perhaps in the end, he was right—she should move on.
She looked up at the two bottles of wine. Both bottles were from the same maker. One was sweet and zesty; the other was bold and red. One touched the tip of her tongue and sent her into a state of happiness while the other seemed to slide through her mouth like a thick, rich river.
She bolted up. “Wait a minute.”
Eddie sat up. “What?”
The words were out of her mouth before she could pull them back. “The actors who played two brothers in the play.”
He pursed his lips. “The who?”
She looked at him, blushed even as she thought about it and remembered their words.
Meet us at midnight.
“The two brothers.”
