I don't read much time travel, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. Let me just say, the danger was so imminent and I got so concerned for the hero, I sat here with toes curled, wondering if he would wind up with the heroine!

Well, I'm not about to give anything away. :) Read this absorbing, tender --yet tense-- love story for yourself.

Wonderful descriptions!

This story is short and achingly sweet. This is the first time I've ever read Rob Shelsky's work and I find his prose beautiful and engaging. I'll definitely look out for more of his stories.

Rob is a master of words. His writing has an elegance that shows through with this wonderful story. His description is clear, throwing you right into the old house where the adventure takes place. The magnetism between Annabelle and Seth is well done. When I started reading it I couldn't quit until I found out how it would be resolved. Excellent job, Rob.

A Confederate Yankee in Annabelle's Court is truly a sweet romance. The characters are charming, and their method of travel is unique. Seth's speech brings the old south to life, and shows in sharp contrast to Annabelle's cut and dried modern speech. A very pleasant story to bring a smile and sigh to your lips.

What in interesting and wonderful job Rob Shelsky did in bringing to life two unforgettable characters from a time-travel experience. A Confederate yankee in Annabelle's Court is a sweet gesture of love at first sight. We have the Confederate Union spy, Seth, who holds honor and duty above all else, and Annabelle who although comes from the modern world opens herself to the world of yesterday and meets the man of her hopes and dreams.

What a refreshingly sweet story that quickly carries you away to yesterday and brings you back with a happy sigh.
I loved this story and recommend this read to anyone who like to time-travel. Rob what an excellent job you did.

Rob Shelsky has done a wonderful job with A Confederate Yankee in Annabelle's Court. It's superbly done, with the two characters well fleshed out. I loved the dialogue. Seth, the soldier, speaks in his time period, and he pretty much scratches his head at what Annabelle has to tell him about our present. But then, Annabelle has a hard time believing she is in the past, too, so that balances perfectly. Both seem convinced the other is a little "tetched in the head."

If you like time travel romances, ones that are written to seem real, ones that stress sweet romance, honor, and duty, you will love A Confederate Yankee In Annabelle's Court. She's a determined, independent woman who knows what she wants, and she wants Seth, as it turns out. But can she have him, or is destiny itself against them? I heartily recommend A Confederate Yankee In Annabelle's Court by Rob Shelsky. It's a good, fun, and solid story of love transcending time and one you definitely won't want to miss.

Review by: George Kempland on Nov. 4, 2010 :
Now here is something different, a well done time travel romance short story that accurately portrays the problems of a local region of North Carolina during the Civil War. When a contemporary young woman, Annabelle, spies a light in an abandoned house, she has to see what it is. Entering the house, something strange happens. Then...well, you'll have to read the story to find out. But let's just say it includes time travel (and they use a wonderful explanation for it), a handsome union soldier who is local in that region, and Annabelle, who must fight in her own way for her man. Well written, descriptive, great characters you feel for--A Confederate Yankee In Annabelle's Court by author Rob Shelsky is a darn good read. Even the title, of course, is a take on another famous time travel story by Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. Again, the author is right on top in all that he writes, and nothing, no matter how small, in this case, even the title referencing, is left out. Rob Shelsky knows how to write a heck of a good yarn! I give this the full five stars.

Review by: Rose Renee Shelly on Nov. 4, 2010 :
A Confederate Yankee In Annabelle's Court is delightful! Author Rob Shelsky has created a very believable scenario in this sweet romance. It seems rare to me when an author bothers to research the historical background for a short story this thoroughly, makes sure of his facts to get it just right. And here Mr. Shelsky did just that.

Annabelle is a modern, intelligent woman, who is smarting from a recent breakup. When she sees a light shining late at night in a supposedly abandoned old farmhouse, her curiosity gets the better of her. She just has to investigate. I won't give away much more of the plot, except to say that the interaction between her and the man she meets, Seth, is fun, well written, ans suspenseful.

Ah, to find a man like Annabelle found would be a lovely thing, indeed! But the question is, do they have a future together, or is he to die? And if he does survive, can they live in our present, or must it be the Civil War Period, because it seems history cannot be changed? Can a modern girl give up her rights of the present to becomes someone's wife in the past? And should she? This story is a different take on it all. I really enjoyed this tale of romantic time travel. Five stars!
