I enjoy photography, writing, oil painting, graphite pencil drawing, computering, playing the soprano sax & clarinet. I live in The South (USA) with my wife, and I'm a romantic at heart!
Writing is a cool "creative" outlet for me. Once I get the notion for a story it starts to run like a movie in my head. It's almost like I'm watching it, then writing down what I "see" and "hear." Some parts almost write themselves! If you find me staring into space, that's my 'catatonic writing mode ' -- I'm quietly processing a story at the time.
Sometimes I see a photo or picture and it causes a story to form in my mind. The last story I wrote ("Baby, I Know You're There) came about just by looking at a photo, and I began "writing" it in my head on the two-hour drive to my daughter's house. I also put together the cover on that trip. Go figure!
Often the idea of a story comes from the blending together of true happenings, books I have read, movies I have seen, or my 'take' on life in general . It all goes into a melting pot of the mind called IMAGINATION. "Coming Home" came about by JUST looking at the picture (now on the cover). I let the background and kids' facial expressions suggest a storyline. "The Danger Below" came about from me stepping on a sea urchin as a child at the beach. "Coby's Short Dilemma" spawned from inferiority issues I had as a child. I never know when the next idea will come my way.
