About Mike Bowden

I am a coalminer’s son and born at a time of poverty and hardship. I would never have thought that those tough years would ever be of use to me, but an era has passed and I was lucky, I see now, to be involved in those times. Through my personal experiences and much research I have tried to capture a little of the day to day lives of those folk. But first and foremost I am a storyteller. I love to write and at the end of the day I hope you enjoy my work. I have had many non-fiction articles published in national magazines, but it is historical fiction that I enjoy most of all. It allows me to escape as it will you, I hope.

My Jack Walker series of novels are intended to give the reader a flavour of the mining communities of Durham in Northern England. Those miners and their families were indeed; A Breed Apart...
