Mitch Egan Slate was born and raised in the Delaware River Valley of upstate New York, not far from where New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania all join together. Growing up, he participated in football, baseball and loved spending time with his grandfather: hunting white tail deer, turkeys and squirrels in the fall; raising vegetables and strawberries in the summer; ice fishing in the winter and taking the time to make maple syrup in the spring. Mitch also enjoyed admiring how fast his grandfather would begin snoring after he sat down in his living room recliner, or his lawn chair under the maple trees in the backyard of his house.
Much of Mitch’s time was spent roaming the 200+ acres of his grandfather’s original homestead named Rock Hill, located on the top of one of the many mountains that make up the foothills of the Catskill Mountains.
When he wasn’t playing sports, hunting, or fishing, Mitch was next to his mother, or grandmother, in the kitchen, trying to get a few pointers on cooking and baking.
After 20+ years in the baking industry, Mitch joined his wife’s pet sitting business and went from scooping flour bins to scooping litter boxes. It’s more fun, less stress and dogs and cats never complain, which is why their lifespans here on Earth are shorter than humans. They are allowed to get to Heaven sooner than we are.
Mitch and his wife live in Florida and their daughter is presently a senior at The University of Florida, majoring in Animal Science and looking forward to Veterinary School.
Mitch now spends his time raising Labrador Retrievers, occasionally baking sweet desserts and debating with himself if he really should be trying to write books.
Mitch figures that since his grandfather could perform a wedding and Shakespeare’s family probably laughed when Bill told them he was writing a book about taming shrews, why not?!
Other Books by Mitch Egan Slate:
"The Rise and Fall of the Third Reservoir", a fictitious, humorous and inspiring story based on the real life experiences of Mitch Egan Slate growing up along the Delaware and Mongaup River Valleys in upstate New York State.
Mitch uses his grandfather's character to write a story about an old man who possesses the rare qualities of knowledge, experience and common sense that is ignored by those who lack these qualities, resulting in a catastrophic event on the day the third reservoir fell.
