About Gordon Magee

My name is Gordon Philip Magee, I am in my mid 50s, married only to Petra who has blessed me with 7 children and by whom we have many grandchildren. I live and work in Sonoma County CA as a Senior Engineering Manager for an equipment design corporation. But it was not always so. Thoroughly lost by age 18 I said yes to the salvation of Jesus, broken completely as a curbside addict by age 20 I understood His calling and began to follow. My first book 'Breaking the Cycle of Slavery to Sin' includes the story of my recovery through His power. My second book 'Seeking God for Daily Living and Destiny' includes the story of what happened over the years as I let the Lord God have His way and write His-Story into my life.

This book is a must read, it takes a look into what causes us to continue to sin when we desire to do good. I dealt with a few things from my own life that had been causing me to sin. I am now free from several behaviors that I just could not avoid in my life before reading this book. I would recommend that everyone read this book, it helped me and I know it will help you.

When I first read this I felt as if the author had actually been documenting my life specifically. Each of us has struggles and behaviors that keep us from experiencing the freedom that God has intended for our lives. The author has a way of detailing the process of accepting that freedom, and it was great that he shared his struggles and his journey. A very detailed and logical approach to accepting a wonderful and free gift!

A thorough account of humility, personal responsibility, and what is required to surrender our will to God. A thorough account of humility, personal responsibility, and what is required to surrender our will to God. I have known Gordon for over 17 years and we share similar backgrounds. This book is a deep dive into the biblical lessons like love, forgiveness, and grace to live a life free of the bondage of our iniquities. Gordon does a fantastic job of quoting relevant scripture, then explaining what it means, and relating personal experience along with real world examples to support each chapter's premise. His passion for Christ is not tucked away in a closet; at times reading this was like drinking from a fire hose, but knowing Gordon, who is full of energy and has a deep love for Jesus, it is clear that he wants to help others break the chains that bind them. An ideal read for anyone struggling with ongoing sin who wants a better understanding of the bible from one of the most qualified people I know to teach it.. The title of this book says it all. Sit with the words of this title. Say them slowly. Repeat them. This book is all about "BREAKING the CYCLE of slavery to sin" As Romans 7:15 points out, in our inner being we want to delight in God's law but we are often a prisoner to the sin that works in us. We get stuck in patterns of doing things we don't want to do, even doing things we hate. We even know better & want to change & still we repeat old habits and actions which destroy our lives & the lives of those around us. The best parts of this book for me were at the end of chapters 6 & 7. The author took me step by step through what to do in order to break free from the specific cycle of sin I had in my life. There was also specifically laid out 'steps in prayer' that walked me though 'cleansing from past hurts'. These two sections of the book were like a workbook in a way. I took the time immediately after reading them & processed through my issues in prayer. I'm so thankful for this book. What God has shown me through it & delivered me from...I am truly free in Him.
