Surpisingly good. Has many elements that are different from most fantasy I've read. Felt like the story was the main character. Looking forward to the 2nd book!

First off, I read it in a physical copy but wanted an ebook for my library when I travel. So much fun! I highly recommend it if your a fan of epic fantasy. Like many 'epic' fantasy books I've read, this one starts at a more casual or 'slow' pace and picks up steam. Lots of adventure, peril, intrigue and plots within the plot. I felt it kept a steady pace without too many dips and peaks. The characters are deep and there is a good variety of them. The author answers some of the questions setup in this book while leaving plenty to be examined in further books. I'm already looking forward to the next one!
