According to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) the average annual increase, between 1990 and 2010, held steady at around 2.8 percent. In 2011 food prices increased more than expected to an additional 4.8 percent. By the end of 2012 the CPI increased an additional 3.5 percent annual increase. The experts forecast no end in sight as to how high food and consumer product prices will climb. This is a serious concern for people who are already having trouble making ends meet (according to the U.S. Census Bureau that currently comprises of 46.2 million Americans and climbing).
