I recently finished reading embracing. This book has a lot of warmth and depth. It is thought provoking and mind relaxing at the same time. I so thoroughly enjoyed it. This is something I can go back to and read over and over. Filthy Clean especially touched me because I am that woman. And she is me. Thank you sooooooo much for this experience I will cherish it always. D.D Wright is an extraordinary poetess and I feel honored to have made her acquaintance through this and other channels.

Embracing: A Poetic Perspective, by poet D.D. Wright, is divided into three sections, which convey a variety of thoughts, feelings and emotions.
I found the poetry in this book to be open, honest and genuine. It’s obvious that D.D. Wright is capable of beautifully expressing some truly heartfelt feelings and experiences.
Right from the start I realized there would be no butterflies and rainbows (not that I’m knocking butterflies and rainbows...just isn’t my thing) - raw emotion is what you get with Embracing, which makes for the best poetry in my opinion.
Poems like "Pill Hungry" had me nodding my head in agreement - an honest commentary on the state of our society. This particular line in "Some Say" lays a solid foundation for D.D.’s poetry style and proves this is writing that comes from somewhere deep within:
"Some say I am a rose in the concrete, coming through the ground with a tenacity, that makes people stop and stare at me, but I don’t care."
We know from the start, we’re reading the words of a strong, determined and unique individual, who isn’t afraid to put some personal, sincere words on paper.
As I read through Embracing, I was struck by the uplifting, positive messages in so many of D.D. Wright’s poems. In "Humble Humanity", the line - "The understanding that what affects one, affects us all" - is poignantly powerful. In "Queen", D.D. Wright tells us, "her crown is heavy, her heart is bruised, so she sings, she dances..." Beautiful!
D.D. has included some touching tributes to departed loved ones and a few well-known celebrities. It’s always so refreshing when a writer offers positive words in his or her poetry. What a beautiful gift to give readers! I could honestly see some of these poems being easily turned into song lyrics.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend Embracing: A Poetic Perspective to readers. Anyone looking for an extensive collection of sincere, positive poetic prose will definitely enjoy this book!
