On A Dark Night

The "argument" of ON A DARK NIGHT can be stated simply:
A beautiful and irresolute young woman, reluctantly freed from a passionate and barren involvement with her destructive lover, rejects the proposal of an honorable suitor and impulsively marries an old and saint-like professor. This marriage not only fails to release her from her predicament but inflicts suffering and guilt on all concerned.
