This is a novel based on the earliest Anglo Saxon history, and more specifically the importance of Angles in the formation of the English nation. raedwald is famous for being the body (presumably) found in the Sutton Hoo burial and the image of his facial helmet is one known throughout the world. This story takes him from his ascension to the throne of East Anglia, the introduction of Christianity to England in which he played a pivotal part, to the final battle in which he defeated the Northumbrians, and took the title of Bretwalda, the overking of the Anglos saxon Kingdoms.
