In the 1990s Meekers became involved in wine writing and education. He entertained a weekly wine column for the liberal Maltese newspaper Malta Today. He continues to contribute to The Times of Malta and The Malta Independent, and international wine trade magazines with vintage reports on Malta and other upcoming wine regions.
He is also the author of the first reference book on the country's wine industry and may be regarded as an authority on Maltese wines. For long he ran winesofmalta.com, a now defunct website which he self-funded and ran in support of the Maltese wine industry.
Outside Malta, Meekers is perhaps best known for his role as founder of the Wine School named Wine Campus. Being fluent in several languages, he gets invited as a keynote public speaker at wine trade conferences (such as the first Israeli wine fair). As a 'wine ambassador' he has accompanied diplomatic missions such as the Maltese MEP delegation to the EU parliament, 2010.
Wine educator, taster and wine professional Georges Meekers has been a passionate advocate for the preservation of what he has dubbed Malta's G-force: the two ancient coastal native grape varieties Girgentina and Gellewza. He is becoming recognised for his original take on wine and food matching which draws on the scientific approach to cooking often referred to as molecular gastronomy.

Probably the ultimate guide on the wines of Malta and Gozo, this book is bang up to date.
The book offers a fresh and fascinating approach to educating and informing about Maltese wine, Georges enthusiasm really comes through. We learn about vine history, geography, viticulture and wine-making.
The transition from a badly organized and varied wine producing nation, to a modern well organized producer of some outstanding modern world class wines is particularly well covered.
I very much enjoyed this book.
