Neat story, with believable characters and a clever premise. Oddly satisfying, too, which is pretty good going for such a short story.

I did not know what to think about this work at first. I mean, "Census Taker" seemed like a pretty serious and boring subject to write about. But, I was wrong of course. As soon as I started reading this, I forgot that my lunch was still on the table, unfinished. When I thought that the story just got more interesting, it became even more so. Nice writing, Jeffry Diamond. I should admit that I rarely read anything outside the "Gay and Lesbian" category. But, this one is surely a must read :-) !

p.s.: The lack of one star is only because I did not really get how the man could easily take Sarko's place without raising any questions from the census department. And, it's also because I did not get how the count of houses suddenly changed from 50 to 53 when Laura checked her digital clipboard. But, well, I guess it's just me.

Well thought out short story, Just the right amount of hints so you feel involved in the story wondering if what you think is what is really going to happen next.
