Animal Instincts can be read as a stand alone story but is the first book in what appears to be a loose series. It highlights the beginning of a relationship between two men who seem to be perfect for each other. Containing some zany animal characters that lend comedic relief to an emotionally charged story, this book is engaging, humorous and romantic. While I fully enjoyed this read, I only gave it 4 stars because there is a backstory that is hinted at but never developed. Leaving me with questions as to what happened prior to where this story starts, it is made abundantly clear that both characters had rather important life experiences prior to meeting that are complicating their interactions. This story is well written and edited, the perfect short story length, and contains love scenes that are well written in a real life sort of way rather than over the top erotic. A great first effort from a new author in the M/M love genera. I'd recommend this book to anyone who was looking for a short story that contains both main character depth and good supporting characters. While it does leave certain questions unanswered, it is in no means incomplete, and I'm looking forward to more offerings by this author.
