I am a retired college Dean of Arts and Sciences with a Doctorate in Higher Education and a Master’s in English Language and Literature. I taught college literature, composition and creative writing, and lived in Hersey, Michigan, for many years. It truly was a logging town. The second book in the series is Angels in the Corner: a family saga. The third is on the way!

I started by reading the sequel to this book, Angels in the corner: a family saga. Angels... is so well written, I was a little afraid that the quality of her first book: Elephant in the room: a family saga, wouldn't measure up. My fear was unfounded. This book is a delight! The writing is excellent and the story compelling, full of emotion and humor. The characters come alive and tug at your heart.
I loved it! A story this well told is a real treat to read. Buy it, and see if you don't agree.

Review by: Michael Cain on Aug. 27, 2013 :
The life of the Hughes family, of Hersey, Michigan, is chronicled in this lovely work of fiction as they struggle through difficult economic times. The lumber boom is in full swing in 1890 when the story opens, scarring the region where no one thought to plant new trees. The difficult issues the family faces keep the story moving through two generations as they encounter quirky characters that sometimes pop up out of nowhere.

You’ll laugh and you’ll cry, and then the author teases us with two chapters from the upcoming sequel. Buy this book!
