I brush my teeth and wash my face, at least I feel a bit fresher now. I open the bathroom door and slowly walk back toward the bed, attempting not to fall over anything in the dark.
Once I’m sitting back down, I start to get a really sick feeling in my stomach, Oh my God, I’m sitting next to Clarence, in the dark, on a bed, just the two of us… reality is seriously sinking in. All this time, waiting for Clarence to come back and he’s actually here.
The room is silent apart from our breathing. His breathing is soft but mine is hard and ragged, I might actually have a panic attack right now.
"How do you feel, Abriya?" Clarence asks, breaking the silence. He gets off the bed and turns on the light.
"No!" I shriek covering my face with my hands. "Turn it off, please," I beg.
Oh my God, how embarrassing! I don't want him to see me like this, no make-up and I haven’t had a bath since God knows when.
"Since when did you become so self-conscious?" he laughs.
"You can hear my thoughts? I question him while still covering my face. OMG!
“Why couldn’t you hear me earlier?” I ask him.
“You could hear me earlier?” he asks puzzled.
“Some parts, I tried to say something but it was like I was frozen.”
“Well I couldn’t hear a thing,” he says.
"I can't hear your thoughts," I say sulkily. I used to think I could hear him back in school, after he kissed me but I just thought I was crazy.
"Because you haven’t changed yet," he says, sitting back on the bed.
"So how did I feel you before?" I ask.
"Because when I kissed you I put a mark on you, I wanted you to feel close to me, when I left, I broke it."
"Oh…Wait a minute, so what just happened to me then, that wasn’t food poisoning?" My voice is muffled but I don't move my hands away from my face.
"No, you waited too long to eat or you didn’t eat enough." He grabs hold of my right arm and gently tugs it away from my face.
"Let me just go to the bathroom?"
"Again? Abriya...” He pulls harder on my arm. "Please, look at me, I've waited years to see you again, I wanna look at you," he says, frustrated.
I take a deep breath and slowly lower my hands from my face. I wanna see him too; I've missed him so much. I turn and look at him but my gaze focuses just above his left eye; he has a long deep cut shaped like a semi-circle. It looks a few days old, still nasty but not fresh.
"Oh my God, Clarence," I gush, getting up onto my knees and sitting back on my heels. I gently raise my hand to his wound and touch his face just above the cut.
"Are you okay? How did this happen? Does it hurt?" I fire the questions at him as I take in the rest of him. He's wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt; mmm, his brown skin looks so good - I wanna kiss it. I bite my lip looking back at his face, tracing the outline of his full lips and strong jaw line, remembering how good it felt when he kissed me. When my eyes reach his, his gold eyes are smiling at me.
“What do you think?" he smirks.
Fuck. Me. He’s hotter than I remember.
"Surely you already know the answer to that question?"
