New Beginnings

Rated 4.86/5 based on 7 reviews
Sometimes to move forward you need to seek a new beginning.
As a psychic, Jess Abrams needed a new start far from her old Alpha.
Edenton's Alpha had a bar to sell and welcomed her into the pack.
Neither were looking for love but resisting their attraction may prove impossible.
There's a problem. Someone wants to take the pack for himself. More

This book follows Jess, who like the title suggests, needs a new beginning. After a mistake she can't seem to sake, she takes off for Edenton and joins Slater's pack. And while both have sworn off wolves, there is no denying the spark and pull between the two. Jess meets some amazing new friends that help her more than she'd ever realize she'd need them.
This prequel is a great introduction to the series, offering old fans a glimpse into how it all began, and new fans a reason to come back for more. With the perfect amount of passion, romance, and suspense, New Beginnings is sure to please all lovers of paranormal, even if they aren't overly huge fans of descriptive sex scenes.
I loved how even though the sex scenes were descriptive, they were still tasteful, with just enough heat to give the reader a taste of the emotion without crossing the very thin line the genre has.
I only found about three or four minor errors in the entire book which is epic since I normally find the stupidest unnoticeable errors there are lol.
I enjoyed this book, and I look forward to reading In Too Deep.
I give this book 5 of 5 paws

Review of New Beginnings by Brandy L. Rivers

I was lucky enough to see this novel develop from draft to finished product, and I have to say, Ms. Rivers did an awesome job pulling it all together.

New Beginnings is the prequel to the Other's of Edenton series, which can be read first or after In Too Deep. In New Beginnings, we have the story of Slater, Edenton's own steamy hot pack leader and Jess, a badass psychic who is looking for a clean break and a fresh start. Just like her first book, In Too Deep, Ms. Rivers knows how throw in plenty of action, conflict and suspense. Oh and I can't forget to mention the hot steamy sex. There is plenty of that!

We get to know some new characters in this installment, like Victoria the vintage and ever so classy vampire. We also get to know some familiar characters even better, such as Brody, my all time favorite, who will steal your heart and make you swoon. If you are looking for a series pack with wolves, vampires, mages, druids, and more 'others' than you can count, with plenty of action and a healthy dollop of sizzle, then this is the place to start.

Rivers WOWs Again!

Well, Brandy Rivers has done it again. New Beginnings is every bit (if not more) as engaging as In Too Deep, with vivid, unique, and relatable characters. Oh, and sex. Werewolves, psychics, and sex. Oh my!

A pattern I noticed across both of her books, is her gift at opening a story. In both Deep and Beginnings, I found myself instantly pulled into the story, and the characters. Not all writers can do this effectively, but Rivers nails it.

As the hero of the book, Slater is easy to fall in love with. He has a strong moral code, is good to his pack and also to those outside it, and is immensely loyal. He immediately takes to Jess and the connection is instantaneous. Despite both of their reservations, they are drawn further together as they realize that they are meant for each other, no matter what their rules for themselves are.

I sometimes found myself frustrated with Jess for being so emotional, but then I realized my frustration is based on the fact that everyone, including me, has felt like she has at one point. Overwhelmed, afraid, yet trying to be strong and face her situation bravely.

It was nice to see familiar faces from In Too Deep take a more forefront role in Beginnings. Also, characters like Victoria (the "just for sex" friend of Slater; a role that can often be one-note or cliche) really add some fun dimension. In fact, I found myself wanting a book just about Victoria!

Rivers also gives readers a snapshot from In Too Deep (her first novel), and Shadows of the Past (her next novel). She estimates November for the third book, and I can't wait to read it!

This is the second book I have read by this talented author and is the prequel to In too Deep and yet again takes us into the world that Ms.rivers has created populated with werewolves, vampires and fae. In this book we learn how the mating of Alpha Slater and psychic Jess came to fruition. Theirs is a tangled journey beset with misunderstandings and surrounded by jealousy and danger.
I loved this book and if possible even preferred it slightly as I feel her writing style is really coming into its own. The characters almost jump off the page and its impossible not to like both the leads.Secondary characters are also more than just two dimensional and personally I would love the o so enigmatic fae sheriff to get his own book.
I would rate this as a 5 and can't wait to read more about the inhabitants of Edenton as they have such hot exciting lives!

I totally adore this author’s writing style as it’s real. When you get a sentence in like, “Gregory ripped a nasty fart and she just about died from the stench.” right at the beginning of a story, you know you’re in for a fun ride.

I liked Jess. She was tough and she could take care of herself. And the fact that she was psychic was an added bonus that guarantied some action and drama in the story. She was however a little too cautious for my taste. She kept looking for reasons to not believe Slater’s feelings for her. It was a little annoying how easily she dismissed the matting bond between them.

That’s why I was a little confused about the mating bond. It was portrayed as something either one of them can fight off and I really didn’t get the feel it’s all or nothing so I was questioning the point of it. The mating is supposed to be this unbreakable connection that ties two wolves together. In this case it was more of a sexual desire and nothing else. It was something that can happen accidentally while having sex. So what good is a mating bond if they can so easily mate to each other and to the wrong person at that?

Slater was a good leading man but I think he was a little too soft for an alpha. As much as I liked his character and how he treated his pack equally, he lacked some of that edginess of the alpha where you could feel the power radiating off of him.

I liked the way story unfolded and even though we know all along that Liam is the bad guy I was surprised how things went down in the end.

If you read my review to In Too Deep, you know that I loved loved loved that book! If you haven't yet read it you can see my review here: Like my last review I should state that I got this ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Now let me say, I loved this book actually a bit more! I fell in love with the world that Brandy wrote about in the first book, and like I do with most sophomore attempts, I get a bit nervous for authors. Because let's be honest, if you hit it out of the park with book one, you usually disappoint with book 2 and 3. Look at all the recent series books that by book 3 we no longer care about. If anything, I care more now about the characters than I did in the first one.

This book takes us through Jess' journey. Jess is similar to Fallon (Heroine in the first book) in that she is strong and there is a no BS policy with her. I think Jess is awesome! Jess can see the future and like most who have this gift, she kind of treats it like a curse. You can't touch her when you first meet her, she isn't big on telling people what she sees, and even her bestie has been known to shut her and her visions out when they don't tell her what she wants to hear.

Slater is so sexy. He is the Alpha of the new pack that Jess joins and he gives her a new home when she makes the huge mistake of sleeping with an idiot who is kind of disgusting (because what girl hasn't?). Turns out the disgusting idiot is her current Alpha...ooops....=) Not only does Slater let her come move into his pack, he sells her the bar that has been just collecting dust.

These two meet and of course with Slater being a uber sexy Alpha and Jess just being uber sexy, things start to get hot and kind of tense. Slater has been having disturbing dreams and Jess is seeing a lot of interesting and sometimes disturbing visions. Needless to say, it is a pretty awesome joining of forces. I won't go into too much detail (because that would take the fun out of reading the book!), but I will say that it is a story that keeps you engaged!

Just being in this world again was a blast! And I have to be honest when I say this, it is so good I give it 5 lipsticks! Seriously 5!

Brandy is a rock star!
