Liam and the Sun Bear
This story is about 11 year old Liam McFarland. Who spends most of his Saturday afternoons, earning his pocket-money, helping his uncle Fergus in the local bookshop...The story begins one Saturday afternoon, whilst Liam is in his uncles bookshop. Liam was busy sorting out the stacks of second-hand books in the rear of the shop, when Liam discovers a very old book. The book had no real distinguishing marks, other than a strange sign, embossed in leather, on the front cover. After showing his uncle this particular book, Liam is told to place it with all the other antique books, on a glass cabinet, at the far side of the room. On closer inspection, Liam reads out loud, the inscription, inside the front cover of the book. Liam is then suddenly transported to the magical land of Mizraim.
Once Liam has quickly recovered from the initial shock of waking up in a strange place, he soon discovers that almost every creature and animal in Mizraim can talk. Liam is greeted by a talking squirrel, whose name is Mr Roloff. The squirrel explains to Liam, where he is, how he got there, and the little pocket book that he holding is a magical book, and also has the power to return Liam to his own world. However. Liam first has to complete an adventure, which is set by the great wizard Dagmar. The quest he sends Liam, and 12 other members of the village of Aebeltoft on, is a quest to find the most precious thing in the entire kingdom of Mizraim.
The 12 members of the village, are paired up to set out on this adventure, but Liam is alone, only until very soon into the start of his journey. Liam meets up with a strange little creature called a Sun Bear. The little bear introduces himself to Liam, as Cornelius. From that moment onward, they become close friends, and encounter many strange and wonderful things throughout their adventure.
Throughout their quest to find the most precious thing in Mizraim, Liam has to keep a daily dairy of the events. The people he meets, as well as the strange creatures and animals. Both Liam and Cornelius get into all sorts of trouble. They encounter a vegetarian two-headed giant, who has a meat eating creature for a pet. The come across subterranean creatures, from which they are saved from, by a very friendly dragon. The get trapped in a magical flying crystal bubble, from which they manage to escape, only to end up in more trouble. Liam and Cornelius have the precious gems that they have found, stolen by other members who are on the same quest...Liam and Cornelius must complete the adventure, if Liam ever wants to return to his own world, but completing the quest, gives Liam something more important than precious gems or gold. It teaches Liam, that honesty, love and friendship, are far more precious and important, than gems and gold.
