An excellent book set in an exciting new world, The Planet Shaker is a compelling read. Snyder deftly introduces a cast of characters who are coming into their own as they learn to control their newfound superpowers to become part of the Kore, an elite team of government-managed protectors. At the same time, we see the some of the politics behind a decadent society supported by the slave labor of an entire planet. Before long, our protagonists are thrust into the political machinations, and neither they nor their two planets will come out unscathed.
While I loved the political intrigue, the fantastic abilities, and the frighteningly powerful technologies in this book, my favorite part of The Planet Shaker is its insights into human behavior. People's willingness to label a group as "other" if it gains them an advantage, the fear and sense of superiority that spring from that, and the way that both erode when people find themselves becoming friends with someone "other." How people act when they find themselves with astonishing power over others or if they are given a completely hedonic life.
Although this story is set in a fantasy/sci-fi world, don't let that fool you. It's not a book about incredible powers. It's a book about people, who happen to have incredible powers. In other words, it's the best kind of book.

L.Q. Snyder has a way with words. From the moment I started reading this book, until the final sentence, I was unable to put it down. Witty humor, steamy romance that doesn't feel R-rated, and emotional circumstances are just a few of the things I loved about L.Q.'s writing. A mythical universe full of fantastic characters with supernatural abilities was gripping, but the romantic entanglements of the characters kept me coming back for more. I really loved the balance between a fantasy world, sci-fi technology, super-human abilities, and a romantic triangle with a twist. The characters of this book are so well written that you will feel as though they are real people. There are those you will love, those you will hate, and even a couple you will love to hate. Once you start reading, you will be hooked. Wish i could give this book a ten star review because it deserves it. Can't wait for the next book in the series to be released!
