At first this seems to be a generic apocalyptic story,it pretty much stays that way until the end, the last few paragraphs give the title meaning.

I have to agree with the previous reviewers. A damn fine story, told excellently.

Brilliant! I was drawn in immediately, and felt completely connected to the characters, as well as the story line, right off the bat. I am looking forward to reading all works by this author!

This is easily the best short story I've read on Smashwords, and the best short story I've read anywhere for weeks. The apocalyptic scenario is compelling, but it's the character's responses that are the most fascinating. I'll be seeking out this author's other work.
