About William Lewis

After thirty years teaching mathematics and science in Oxford schools, William Lewis left the profession in 1996 to take up the final post of his career at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology in Oxford.

On his retirement in 2010, he turned to a long-standing enthusiasm – mediæval English history. He has written a book about the development of British surnames and now releases this companion volume on English place-names.

William Lewis now lives quietly beside the River Severn in the pleasant Worcestershire town of Bewdley.
