Make your Move chronicles the journey of thirty seven year old socialite, Leonara Monet Anderson as she works her way through the minefield of divorce, sidesteps near poverty, hooks up with a pawn broker, a Brazilian billionaire and a guy she meets on Facebook as she tackles her husband’s infidelity. And though everything that could go wrong does, Leonara kicks ass and she does it in eight inch Louis Vuittons.
During her annus horibilus, Leonara deals with a cast of interesting and challenging individuals:
MoeAnderson (her spouse of seventeen years and father of both her children ... maybe)
Tommy and Tamara Anderson (the Anderson heirs)
Suri Anderson (her soon to be ex mother-in-law)
Adam Beckinsdale (her therapist and only friend aside from the six hundred she has on Facebook – he is affectionately named Becks)
Antonio Morientes (the chauffer and her lover of two years)
Damian Obei (the Arab billionaire she meets on Facebook)
Paul Obei (divorce attorney to the seriously rich – overpaid in her opinion)
Paulo (Suri’s boyfriend, the delightful Brazilian billionaire. And though he speaks very little English and Leonara no Portuguese, they become fast friends)
And the woman she insists on calling Tanya (Thomas’ girlfriend Tina)
Soon after Leonara learns of his infidelity, MoeAnderson informs her that he is danger of losing the family business and their palatial home, Anderson Hall. Assuming that this will be his shining hour, Leonara waits for Moeto rise to the occasion. Not for the first time, he disappoints her.
Pooling her scant resources and her jewels, Leonara heads to the most discreet money lender in the city. She returns home with enough money to cover their living expenses for three months. She hopes that during this time, Moewill turn things around and grant her a fitting settlement.
Much to her disappointment, Moechallenges her carefully laid plans at every turn (he starts to drink again; his Maybach gets repossessed; she catches him and his mistress in her bed; he informs her that he’s bonded the house to the hilt; he starts selling off priceless art and then to add insult to injury, he has a heart attack).
Leonara soon realises that she has no one to count on but herself, so she takes over Thomas’ office and invests all her money trading Forex. With Damian’s help (she is clueless as to his real identity and thinks that he is the gofer) she makes enough money to fulfil her life’s passion: shopping. But on this occasion, Leonara finds herself on the other side of the counter as she launches South Africa’s premier boutique, Billionaire Babe.
Pleased that she as finally created a life that she can be proud of, she makes a valiant attempt to bond with her children. Imagine her shock when she finds that Tamara has sneaked out from her elite boarding school ... to spend a passion filled weekend with Antonio. Just another pothole on the highway that is Leonara’s life.
A woman capable of wearing many hats, Leonara flirts with religion, meditation and the law in her quest to set her life right side up ... but it is only when she digs deep and faces her demons that she finally triumphs as a mother, businesswoman, lover and an ex wife.
Make your Move is a hilarious, witty and insightful peep into the world of divorce. Long after the last page has been read, the message of hope endures. Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, Leonara resurrects herself and finally accepts that when God destroyed her foundations, He wasn’t being mean or having an off day, He was just clearing the way for her to build new ones.
And being the woman that she is, Leonara vows to build an empire.
