About Mark Elswick

Mark Elswick has been a teacher, tutor, sportswriter, college professor, and author. Despite overcoming a life-threatening auto accident in 1992, perseverance and dedication kept him in the writing game. The title of “author” didn’t come until late-2011 when Modern History Press (MHP) published his first book, “Padman,” a collection of 13 shorts stories. Afterward, he ventured onto the independent scene. That two-year chapter of his writing career also saw months of podcast hosting and public speaking while he was self-publishing three novels and some short stories. Elswick recently returned to MHP and his first biography is currently in the works.

The story is very uplifting. It depicts how strong a person is even in the darkest moment of his life. A tragedy may be an obstruction to see the light (success), but when he holds on to the promise of hope (being trustful), he can survive and surpass the struggles and challenges in life. With faith in our hearts, hope will manifest in our lives.

God's promise on Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." - NKJV

This was a nice little story but it seemed to drag a bit toward the middle, like something more should have happened.

Nice little short story. Just enough suspense to keep you wanting to read more. And hoping the little tyke survives.

Great work Mark! I am excited to read the rest of your works. Faith, only 5 letters, but larger than life itself. Without it and the encouragement from others, Tyler would have been consumed by the flames. Thankfully, God has the bigger picture and knows how to orchestrate people for His purpose. Dream! Hope! Believe! So proud of you Mark.

Mark Elswick, you moved me to tears as I felt the connection, the deep emotional bond with Danni that we share, as Mothers. The heart of ourselves is our children and I could just feel Danni's pain and helplessness. My heart was breaking for her. The amazing leap of Faith by Tyler proves the point so clearly. He had faith, not in what he could see... but what he believed. :) What an amazing story. I am truly moved. (not to mention the love story ending that had my heart fluttering)

"Faith" by Mark Elswick is a beautiful short story. With so much ugliness in the world it's wonderful to find a nugget of positive wisdom within this small town tale. It inspires me to be my very best version. Keep them coming Mark!

This has to be one of the best short stories I have ever read. The author makes you cry, smile, hold your breath and exhale with such force! Very few writers have ever done that for me. The author kept you guessing all along which way the story would go. Very graphic descriptions also! Felt like you were right there with the family and loved ones...hoping for the best outcome for this situation. The author definitely demonstrates how his faith is strong and that God is good!!! Wonderfully written!!

"Faith" is a short story with a very large attitude! It makes you realize how much you use faith on a daily basis, for even the most minute things! It brought it home to me after I read it and am so very thankful everyday for all the things I put faith in! Mark is a very talented man, his words always hit home; make an impression. His first book "Padman..." is awesome, I have read it a few times, just for the inspiration and feel good feeling I get from it. If you have a hurdle to get over or need some inspiration to take that leap of "Faith" , than you have to read this book! Keep up the amazing work Mark and I look forward to the next one from you!!

FAITH is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. In a dramatic, emotionally driven word picture, Mark Elswick injects us with a booster of belief, and a reminder of the power that we hold in ourselves when we have Faith. The courage to jump, and step off into a hole where we cannot see the bottom, a future that we hope for, a love, an adventure or a dream we dare to believe will come true. A simple, but so powerful story I will read again and be inspired when I hesitate to take that Leap of FAITH....
