Ann is a fearless fourteen year old orphan from the city of Kinhaven in the Kingdom of Aslin. When she stows away on an enchanted ship sailing to the mysterious island of Amaintéa, she is separated from her twin sister, Fae. In the course of her adventures, Ann learns that magical abilities are called Talents and that Amaintéans are very welcoming, not the feared sorcerers of Aslin legend. The Queen of Aslin, a devious and jealous woman, has been persecuting Amaintéans for many years. When Ann finds her heritage is Amaintéan, she discovers her own Talent. Unexpectedly, her newly found grandmother is the highly admired High Priestess. Ann and her grandmother plan a rescue mission for Fae, but their plans go awry.
