His pen name is Merton Lee. He was born in 1969 to a poor family in Singapore. He struggled and studied hard to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree at the National University of Singapore, reading Economics, Philosophy and English Literature. He also obtained post-graduate degrees in management, finance and accountancy.

Married with two children, he has worked for more than 20 years in the public sector as an administrative manager, contributing his best years to public service. He completed two and a half years of National Service in the Republic of Singapore Navy. He was afflicted with asthma. After taking herbal medicine, his health slowly stabilised. Recently he completed his first novel Mystery Ulysses and dedicated it to Dr Cyril Wong, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, William Faulkner and James Joyce. This is to celebrate the forthcoming centenary publication of James Joyce's Ulysses.
