Immediately engrossing, RIVEN offers an exciting story and empathetic characters. Kait Nolan deftly introduces the paranormal into a gritty, contemporary urban fantasy, as Marley, a young woman who was abandoned by her father, acquires a protector -- Ian, a shadow walker who no longer believes he is capable of human emotion. Readers are in for plot twists that keep tension high, but the story line does not sacrifice the developing relationship between Marley and Ian. While my review is of an advance review copy, I enjoyed reading this intriguing, appealing, and engaging story. I'm ready for the next in this series!

Very entertaining. If you like fantasy/romance this is a great read. Very interesting characters and a little twist on the typical fantasy "types". Looking forward to the next novel. Most impressive copy editing--congratulations to this indie writer. Not everyone is so careful. If the series keeps going as well as it is, I will likely upgrade to 5 stars. 4 stars is, "I really liked it and would be happy to read it again." 5 stars is, "This book is going into my library to read over and over again."

Well written book. The plot moves along fast and the characters are interesting. You don't have to have read other books in this series to fully enjoy this book. Hard to put down once you start reading.
Note: I was given a free copy in return for a true review.

Fast-paced fun read. I enjoy this Mirus world Kait Nolan has created and look forward to more books set in it. The relationship between the two protagonists is great. Physical attraction mixed with trust and willingness to let the other person be themselves. Being able to sense each other's emotions could be beneficial or detrimental to their happiness with each other though. I'd be interested in seeing the long-term effectiveness of the relationship. Maybe as side characters in a later book?

On the picky side. Author did a much better job of making me fell like I was actually in the scene watching everything play out with Red. There wasn't enough physical descriptions of what was happening in some of the scenes for my personal preference. Also, wish it was a little longer.

Overall though, well worth the cost and looking forward to her next book.
