The post hotel café is a historical building in daily use in the Flemish town of Wetteren where the author lives. As such it provides a departure point for a freewheeling (yet also strict) meditation on basic themes of identity and responsibility. The frescos based on scenes from Breugel which cover the walls of the café provide further images of a tradition which is alive and real and as such a source from which the continuing exploration of identity is followed in a highly lyrical manner.
