Far From Home is, like many good sci-fi books, a western moved into space, with plenty of battles between the good guys and the bad. This book makes clever use of a black hole for time travel into an unknown galaxy, where a strange alien race has left behind mysterious and powerful artifacts capable of letting you rewrite history.
My only complaint is that the characters seem two dimensional. Most good guys have no flaws and the bad no redeeming points.
