A chance viewing of a 1963 television show was the pebble that redirected the flow of Lydia Winslow’s life. It was an episode of Dr. Kildare in which Harry Guardino played a man who suffered a stroke and became aphasic. It was then that she returned to school for the degree that would enable her to become a medical speech-language pathologist. She now looks back through forty years of treating individuals with neurological damage, and can still evoke their faces, their names, and each of their unique and challenging situations.
Before becoming a speech pathologist, she worked for MCA Universal writing public relations pamphlets as well as album liner notes.
Throughout her various career roles, she continuously wrote, edited, and published civic newsletters. Lydia Winslow’s non-fiction work has been published in two internationally recognized hobby periodicals.
She resides in the upstate of South Carolina with her husband, their cat, dog, and famous potbellied pig, Peggy. She continues to work in the field of speech and language pathology, and continues to collect what she calls “favorite patients.”
