I recently downloaded this EBook for my son. He started fifth grade this year and has fallen in love with writing his own short stories. He will write pages and pages about almost anything that crosses his mind, though he often will still complain about having nothing to write about. While attempting to help him overcome his writer’s block I recalled my own writing exercises in grade school, where the teacher would have us read a paragraph and then continue the story. It took me a short while, but I eventually came across 101 Sensational Story Starters for 5th and 6th Grade Students. This sensational book is just what we were looking for.
This writing guide provides wonderful inspiration for my sons writing. The story starters are all about a paragraph long, and provide a wide variety of unique, creative, story ideas. With Halloween coming up, Jake has been mostly trying to write scary stories to scare his friends and family, and he was delighted to see that the author, Tracy Wasem, included a wide number of spooky and eerie story ideas in this compendium. His favourite so far has been the one with Robin Hood and the zombies. He has written a good six pages on that one story starter alone.
For me, the main reason I purchased this book is because it had more to it than just silly stories like so many of the others of this type. As part of the story prompts, 101 Sensational Story Starters also has the kids write from different perspectives, rewrite their own versions of classic fairy tales, and even write persuasive essays, a skill which will be invaluable in the future. This book dedicates a portion to teaching the kids about other writing styles, including business letters. The guide explains how to structure the letter, and even provides the address of several major corporations whom the kids might be interested in writing to.
This guide has a lot to offer any beginning writer, and I know it will be a favourite for my son as his writing skills grows and develops.

I highly recommend this book for grade 5 and 6 students. As an experienced teacher what I see in today world is children are lack of imagination, which is very important fact when comes to creativity. For my teaching years I've been seen that without positive imagination there's nothing but a robot.
This book contains very creative and inspiring story starters which can motivate children’s mind to think differently and creatively. I recommend this book to all the students in my class. This book includes very imaginable story intros with good ending where a child can think different ways and make their imagination process powerful. To help children to think, there are some questioned include in the book after a story starter, which I found very useful to because these questions guide children towards very effective and good thinking. At the end of the book there is an Expository Writing section. In this section you’ll find example of writing a positive business later. This is really good for children. Because author include some real address of companies.so when a child send a later a particular address he will be answered by a replying letter with admiring his work. I found this is very practical and very effective to encourage our students. Really nice and very valuable book.

What a fun book! 101 Sensational Story Starters for 5th and 6th Grade Students is full of creative story ideas to motivate and inspire young students to enjoy the writing process. I found myself reading the story starters and suddenly my own imagination was getting caught up in how to complete the stories in my own mind.
This book is a great tool for helping young writers to express themselves and make the writing process an enjoyable experience. There are also some lessons at the end of the book, including how to write a positive business letter and an assignment complete with contact information of some businesses in which the student can send the letter to. This book is created with the young student in mind, but I think it can be beneficial to anyone to exercise their creative mind!
