Rated 5.00/5 based on 3 reviews
2013 was the deadliest season ever seen in the Karakoram. When John Quillen found his climbing partner lying face down with a shattered leg in the snow high on the flanks of Broad Peak, the drama had just begun. See what transpired through first hand accounts of the deaths of three team members on this ill fated expedition to the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods.

I really enjoyed this book. It's an honest, heartfelt and genuine account of an expedition that went wrong, and a great tribute to the three Iranian mountaineers who lost their lives on Broad Peak in the Pakistan Karakoram in 2013.

Let me start by saying that sadly, I am not a big reader...an embarrassing fact that I have tried to break myself of many times...with that being said, I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! This was the first book that I have ever read cover to cover in one sitting...absolutely amazing! It had me mentally and physically entwined in this incredible journey. The words painted such an experience that at times I actually felt cold when they were cold, smiling when they were laughing, frightened when they were in danger and in tears with each seemingly endless loss. My heart still morns for the tragedies suffered. I can only say that I pray for the fallen and their families and thank John for sharing so eloquently a true story of modern day explorers.
