Marilyn lives on the outskirts of Melbourne with her husband and two children. A fully qualified Secondary School Teacher, she spent thirteen years in the classroom before taking leave from her profession to become a stay-at-home mum.
Since early childhood, she has been an avid reader. Growing up with books like, 'The Wishing Chair' and 'The Magic Faraway Tree', as some of her most treasured favourites, she has always had a fondness for fantasy and the mythical world. Moving into her teenage years, she developed a highly active imagination and often created stories which she liked to share with her friends. However, with a focus on her studies, she never seemed to find the time to commit those stories to paper.
Now, many years later, inspired by authors such as Stephenie Meyer,Becca Fitzpatrick and Claudia Gray, Marilyn has finally fulfilled a lifelong dream to write and publish a novel of her own.
For those of you who take the time, she hopes you enjoy reading it as much as she enjoyed writing it.

(Accidentally reviewed the wrong book before).
(I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review).
(This review may contain spoilers).
I have to say, I did find this book easier to read than the first one - but I did feel that there was a certain obsessiveness to Samantha's relationship with Shadow. And I'm not fond of romances where the only focus is the other person - even going so far as to completely ignore the fact that her guardian was moving away.
I liked the appearance of Logan and I liked him as a character. I really liked his relationship with Shadow - I'm a sucker for good brother relationships. What I didn't like were Logan's feelings for Samantha. I didn't thnk they were necessary - and just made Samantha even more the centre than she already was.
I have to say, heroines of young adult books have to work hard to make me like them. I won't say that I dislike Samantha, but I don't really like her. And by the end of the book, I've grown a bit disappointed, because it seems that she's being set up to become amazingly all-powerful... and that's normally the downward slope to Mary Sue-dom.
It was nice to see Hunter and Celeste again in the book, along with Mia - but Mia did grate on me again after a while. It seems like the only thing she talks about is Samantha's love life - and I'm not sure that's enough to base a friendship on.
I did notice a number of errors in the book - including one of my pet peeves. 'God' - not 'god'. It looks like sloppy writing to me.
I'm not sure if I'll read the third book in this series. I think I'll have to wait and see - maybe judge it on a sample chapter or two first.

I received a copy of Mystery Rises for an honest review.
Shadow and all of his yumminess:
Swoon Shadow is even sexier in Mystery Rises than he was in Mystery Falls. He’s more protective and a little possessive over Samantha than he was especially since his brother shows up. Man oh man would I just love to see those sexy boys in person. Anyway I digress. Sadly a lot of the book is without Shadow for a couple of reasons….well mainly one: Samantha’s dead family sucks butt. Back to Shadow he changes a lot in this novel and I loved it because since he’s so old you wouldn’t think he would be he is definitely a better character and boyfriend in this book.
The Deep Sting of Betrayal:
Someone betrays Samantha and Shadow and I know who it is. I was super excited that Marilyn and the story kept me on my feet until the betrayer was revealed and the epilogue where it give a hint as to what was going to happen next I was like “You (insert profanity here)!” I knew it I knew it I knew it. Sorry but when you read Mystery Rises which you should totally do by the way you will know what I am talking about because the person who sucks butt you will not like from the beginning and when it’s confirmed who it is let’s just say you’ll be a tad shocked at how far the person went to betray someone.
Samantha and her life are kind of in a rut while Shadow is gone. She lives day to day, week to week until Shadow comes home. I was worried it would get old reading about her waiting for Shadow to come home but Mystery Rises and Samantha definitely hold some surprises I did not expect when it came to her character. Samantha is definitely a stronger more confident no nonsense character in this book than she was in the first novel. A lot happens and I love how Samantha takes everything in stride.
The Sexy Stuff:
Let’s just say my complaint in the last book about lack of swoon worthy material is completely out the window in Mystery Rises. The swoon is so on and I love it. Lots of kissing and some other fun things I did not see coming. Yeah you know what I’m talking about. “Fun stuff!” *wink wink*
After I Finished:
Well when I finished Mystery Rises I was like “Where the heck is the next book?!?!” Seriously that ending was a total cliffhanger and I am so ready to dive off the edge of said cliff to find out what happens next. Marilyn definitely did a great job with this series and I cannot wait to read what comes next.
Thank you Marilyn Phillips for sending me a copy of Mystery Rises and you know for everything else you do!
