My husband and I have two children and own a successful IT business in Northern California. Today I speak publicly about my personal experience with bipolar disorder and my observations of my husband’s experience with schizoaffective disorder to encourage more of the silent successful to speak up and help others who still suffer from mental illness.
I am passionate about changing the way our culture perceives mental illness and I strive to empower others.
My husband and I remained very ill when we lived in secret shame. As we began to tell our friends, we found out we were accepted – maybe not understood – but accepted. I intend to do all I can to help people understand by giving intimate insight into what it is like to battle and have victory over addictions and mental disorders.
There are so many people suffering from mental illness all around us—yet some are the silent successful, living in victory like us. It is my goal to invoke compassion to a culture that does not understand and to provide hope to those still suffering.
