Robert Moore, a successful author, award-winning community volunteer, sought-after public speaker, and the first Lakehead University student to create a student scholarship award while enrolled in full-time studies.
His remarkable story is documented in Moore's recently self-published book, My Journey Through Addictions to Salvation: A New Beginning. The book is a compelling account of the struggles Moore faced on his self-destructive path that began at a young age, and the incredible transformation he has made.
Moore's transformation journey began the day he checked himself into a detox centre. This pivotal step led to a three-month stay at a Treatment Centre, which Moore describes as a life-altering learning process. "It gave me the tools to learn how to live in the community," he says, "and also allowed me to return to school."
Moore now has diploma’s in Addiction Careworker, Social Services Worker; he will be graduating Lakehead to complete is Bachelor degree June 2014. Moore's motivation to pursue additional studies came from his own life experience. "I saw how drugs and alcohol affected my life and I figured that I might be able to help other people."
The desire to help others is also what made Moore decide to write his book. "My goal is to give back to the community and help support someone who can't help themselves. This is why I wrote the book - to reach out to those who need it. By sharing my struggles and hopes, I hope to help prevent others from going down the wrong road."
Robert now offers his wealth of experience and education through motivational speaking and the power of his words has transformed the minds of many who have met him and those lives that were in need of a "light at the end of a long tunnel". He is an inspiration.

Robert Moore has done what historically very few people have been able to do: come back from a long history of drug and alcohol addiction, a life with no purpose, no education and no hope, to a place of hope, completing an education, and accomplishing goals at a breakneck speed. All while at the same time writing his autobiography and doing motivational speaking, to help others who are also on this long and difficult path.
