The writing and story development are very good.

The science fiction is very background and the story could easily be written without it.

Are you planning a trip home for the holidays to introduce your mate to the parents? This short story takes place sometime in the distant future when Charlese takes her man Bernie to Kansas to meet the family. It's a fun read that touches on some of the same concerns as in any family, any year.
BTW, the intergalactic travelers, Charlese and Bernie, are the main characters in Loy's upcoming sci-fi novel Galactic Geographic, expected later this year. Check 'em out.
