I read and enjoyed all Jeff McDargh's Maple Drive series shorts plus the Anniversary flash fiction (my favourite of the four). The writing in all is strong with no wasted words, yet McDargh manages to pack a lot in.

McDargh's strength is in the storytelling. All the stories, however, could do with some editing. The missing punctuation and the few typos weren't so much, though, as to detract from the story.

This was a good short tale with one of the best twist endings that I've read for quite sometime. Took me totally by surprise, which is always a good thing as I hate reading a short story and thinking "I know where this is going".

I think this is your best work yet, Jeff. I was engrossed in the first half, these people, you made them real, the situation beautiful and terrible at the same time. And the twist towards the end, what is discovered in the house, is indeed a twist, unexpected, so much so that I covered up a few sentences with my hand so as not to spoil it for myself. Excellent stuff, and I,m sensing another improvement in your writing. There are still one or two little things that could be tidied [there's an interesting spelling of 'seconds' for instance], but I can see you're working on it. And also [it almost seemed especially for me] in the very last line, you have the correct spelling of 'definitely' which cheered up my day no end.

Is this Maple Drive idea gonna run, Jeff? Must admit, I'm getting interested.

Nice idea, but needs serious head hitting. And I should know as the self proclaimed king of the "pytos". Then / Than. Commas. Still worth a four star, but...!!! No excuse in a story of a thousand words. Hmm. I'm just saying....
And while I'm banging on, I like the cover, just up the font on the text. Nice story. Do it justice.

Interesting, intriguing, alarming. I think I know this old couple! And yes, I like the subtle tie-in to Jacob's Closet. While I still found the odd misspelling here and there, overall better written than the subsequent two stories. It makes you wonder how deep the tie-in with Jacob's Closet really is... Since there is nothing like 4.5 stars on here, how about I round up.
