About E.D. Armstrong

I am 43 years old and in 2013 I celebrated 18 years of being married to the most beautiful woman in the world. We have 3 children ages 17, 13 and 4. With my wife’s support and encouragement I was able to return to school at the age of 32, and while cleaning office buildings at night I attended college during the day in order to earn my Associates of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences specializing in Children and Family Services, as well as a Master of Science in Psychology specializing in Behavioral Studies. I currently work as a Behavioral Therapist with school aged children.

I enjoy writing, watching movies/TV shows with my kids, as well as playing games with my family, (both video as well as board games). My family, and I enjoy vacation trips to the Caribbean which is my wife’s birthplace, (Fajardo, Puerto Rico). Our ultimate trip would be to travel the United States in our very own custom RV. My favorite TV shows are Supernatural, Smallville, Burn Notice, The Closer, Justified, Warehouse 13, Psych, and Eureka just to name a few. When watching with the kids, we are into Disney’s Phineas and Ferb, The Avengers, Good Luck Charlie and The Suite Life on Deck. I have a wide assortment of musical tastes ranging from my love for original hip hop music, (Public Enemy, Run DMC, and Eric B. & Rakim), to also Gospel, which I happen to love, as well as contemporary Christian music. I furthermore confess that I enjoy listening to country music, as well as old school R & B, (Otis Redding, Barry White, etc).

I love both watching and creating anime with my son, (an aspiring artist), and I love Sci Fi/Fantasy movies, the L.O.T.R. series and Harry Potter are among my favorites. I unquestionably, prefer Underworld vampires & werewolves over Twilight’s cute & cuddly version. I enjoy films based on true stories, and I enjoy early African American literature’s “slave narratives” authors such as Frederick Douglass and W.E.B. Du Bois. The poem “We Wear the Mask” by Paul Laurence Dunbar and the speech “Ain’t I a Woman” by Sojourner Truth are among my favorites.

To be honest, I am not an avid book reader, but I must say that this book is a vivid, colorful and uplifting view into the authors heart as a husband, father and a friend. The author gave us a peek into his life experiences, good and bad- letting us know how much he appreciates and loves his wife and children. Several topics are addressed and answers are given to the wonders and why's of one's mind in this book. I especially liked the analogy of pretty much "gutting" the newly purchased home to create a loving abode for the family...together. Which like a relationship, one needs to work together with the one they love to create a loving environment not only for themself but for loved ones involved. This is a must read for married, single and hopefulls alike! :-)

When I read the author's bio, and saw that he's a behavioral therapist, I expected the book to be highly technical, but it wasn't. Easy read (just under 100 pages on my e-reader), with realistic advice, and honest examples from his own relationship. (I'm grateful for the portrayal of a 'real marriage' with all of the ups, and downs; instead of the usual 'perfect marriage' scenario.) One of my favorite parts was a portion of the poem that reads as follows...

Vivid images of a boy broken and alone
With no one to hear him cry
A fatherless child and a tear soaked pillow
Each tear fell down like rain
A promise is broken
Another birthday is missed~~~

Great book, for a great price. Emotional, serious, and funny... a sweet homage to the woman behind the man.
