To much of the writers effort is focused on trying to create a hidden threat. The story suffers from a lack of realism secondary to trying to force the fear from brief incomplete images of the threat.

Example, three cops on a scene with two cars, leave one car at the scene and the three take one car to a restaurant. There are just so many things wrong there...
