About Ben Pobjie

Ben Pobjie began writing for New Matilda in 2007, and quickly became the site’s resident satirist, writing on such diverse subjects as whaling, Islam, incest, and Wayne Swan’s resemblance to a greyhound. Since then his writing on politics, culture and television has also been prominently featured in locations such as the ABC’s The Drum, Crikey, The Punch and The Age, among others. He is also the co-host of the bewildering podcast Gather Around Me, and a large and somewhat musty fixture on the Melbourne spoken-word scene. Having been described as “puerile and bigoted” by Miranda Devine, and kissed on the forehead by Bryce Courtenay, he is truly all things to all men, and occasionally nothing to very few. Surveying The Wreckage is his first book, unless you count one he wrote about a pony in fifth grade, and collects the best of his New Matilda columns from the years 2008 to 2010. He lives in Melbourne with his wife and an as-yet undetermined number of children.
