A Primer for Lectors

A Primer for Lectors is a short guide to those who must read the lessons in church but do not know how. It explains how reading in church (being a lector) differs from other types of public speaking, and lays out a step by step guide to take the mystery (and the misery) out of the process. More

About Albertus Minimus

Albertus Minimus is an experienced teacher, poet and lector. Having survived many excruciating church readings, he wrote his outline for success as a lector for those who may not have an experienced hand nearby to help out.

The primer by Albertus Minimus is an excellent one. It places the task of the lector forefront: to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in inspiring listener and reader alike through the reading of the Sacred Scriptures. It is a practical, step-by-step, must-read "mini-manual" on how to read so that the Holy Spirit speaks, not the lector. It should be an indispensable part in training lectors; where this is done, will also be a lifeline for the new lector who is "thrown in" without preparation, and will equip current lectors with a means to inspired reading. In addition, I see the relevance of the primer to choir directors of a volunteer group of choir members who may not have had prior experience. Finally, my current parish often asks a member of the congregation to fill in as lector for daily morning Mass when called upon. Often this arrangement begins with "Are you willing to read when needed." No specific day is assigned. Availability of this primer for the new volunteer would greatly assist the appointed lector of the day. The Weekly Parish Bulletin should provide the link. My thanks to Albertus Minimus for some long overdue help for the lector.
I look forward to reading more by Albertus Minimus.
