"Excuse of the Day" brilliantly written one side of a phone conversation that truly brings the hapless Shelley to life. The real sign of a good writer, for me at least, is that when I read a book or a short story, it seems like the writing was effortless. Tabitha certainly has that gift. Thank you Tabitha for brightening my morning with this lovely story - no matter what life throws at me today it has to be better than what it seems to be throwing at Shelley.

"Excuse of the Day" is a very short piece of dialogue that should serve as an introduction to Tabitha Ormiston-Smith's style of writing. As everything else that I've read from this author it is well written, funny and imaginative but it is no more than a tiny bite-sized piece of literature. If you like this er... how should I call it... sample... what you should really be reading is "Gift of Continence" by the same author. That is a full book and it made me laugh out loud on every other page.

This is a short but snappy read and filled my tea break beautifully. I find the writing style of this author most addictive. To be able to conjure up, for the reader, such strong images in their mind in only a handful of pages is quite a remarkable skill. Loved the stammering female character and, of course, her dog!

A quick, fun read. And no, I don't believe her! But you have to give her points for trying.
