A simple definition for the Law of Attraction is this: Positive or negative outcomes in life are achieved by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, respectively.
In other words, you will attract whatever you think about into your life, whether it be positive or negative. Your positive energy or thoughts will bring you positive outcomes and your negative energy or thoughts will bring about negative outcomes.

The Law of Attraction is at work all around us, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. Possibly, you have had an experience that seemed like an odd coincidence at the time, although it was a direct result of this basic law. Maybe you wanted to meet an interesting person, and after having thoughts about meeting them, and continuing to think about it for some amount of time, the opportunity seemingly appeared out of the blue. Or maybe your desire was to obtain a job working for a particular company, and then all of a sudden, you were presented with the chance to interview at that company. Maybe you were thinking about someone you hadn’t seen or heard from in a long time, but then this person appeared in your life as if by coincidence.
These seemingly random events may all have been the result of the Law of Attraction. In particular, the Law of Attraction holds that just the act of thinking about something may bring that thing into reality, even if your thoughts are unintentional. And this amazing law not only holds for positive thoughts and outcomes; conversely, you could just as easily effect negative events that result from negative thoughts. You could lose your job, get into a car accident, contract a disease, or break up with your significant other. All of these negative outcomes could be prompted by your thinking alone.
Does this sound like a scary idea: the ability to control the events in your life by thinking alone?
Actually, it is only scary if you do not know what you are doing and how to control this amazing power available to you. It is scary because if your thoughts continue randomly about positive and negative, then your life will unfold in a seemingly random way with bad and good things arriving without much rhyme or reason. This is how most people live out their lives. Their destiny unfolds in a seemingly random fashion. But it doesn’t have to be that way. By understanding the basic principles of the Law of Attraction, they can tip the scales of destiny in their favor; they can throw out the bad and make room for the good with open arms.
Is this simply “positive thinking,” a concept that many people are already familiar with?
To some degree it is, but it is much more complex than that, as we will discover in later chapters of this book. Positive thinking is only a single component or dimension in a multidimensional concept. The fact that many people have recognized the connection between positive thinking and good outcomes underscores the power of the Law of Attraction. Many people have unleashed some of the power by thinking positively, but positive thoughts are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
