About Rafin R. Mena

Rafin R. Mena is a retired US Attorney born in Puerto Rico, who specializes in Caribbean history. He has lived in many Latin countries where he has collected most of the materials in his novels and short stories. He writes in both Spanish and English with a relaxed colloquial style picking up local modisms and colloquialisms of Latin-American and the stateside Latinos and other Caribbean people. Mr. Mena lived 13 years in the New England region of the USA, and many years in Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Cuba. His novel Marie Cesette is an extremely well researched historical love story about Alexander Dumas’s mulato Haitian grandmother. It covers a little known period in the Caribbean when Haiti was, the most successful and rich colony in the entire region. If you have read the Black Count, this novel is a most if you want to learn about the Duma’s family not covered therein. You can find most of Mena’s novel’s synopsis in his web site: www.hispanomagno.com .
We recommend his Seven Love Stories from the Caribbean. For those Spanish speakers we recommend Piruli Bombe an exquisite story about a shoeshine very poor boy who became an extremely rich person who returns home to seek the girl he fell in love with as a child now a widow of the Hispano-American War of 1898. A most beautiful love story develops then. Or the real story of Aroca a Spanish Conquistador who became a Mayan Chief and successfully fought Herman Cortez’s invasion of Yucatan region.
