The Engage Program: Empowering Group Education for Learners with Autism and Other Special Education Needs
The Engage program enables K-12 instructors to incorporate learners with a range of learning disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, into their group instruction. More
The Engage program was born out of thoughtful experimentation, calculated practice, and determination that we as educators could improve the lives of the students we work with. The Engage program support teachers, professionals, and parents to rethink how they involve groups of special education students in educational and social environments. We provide the framework for students to be authentically included in a community where they feel valued and can be a contributing member regardless of their cognitive or social skill level. We know Engage works because we have practiced it extensively. We have helped children feel the authenticity of a supportive community. We provided the structure and showed them the boundaries of this group.
