America's Best of Times And How To Get Them Back
America's Best of Times (And How to Get them Back) offers recollections of what it was like growing up across America in the fifties and sixties. The story contains a mixture of a young boy's personal experiences with a chronological progression of events and culture that shaped these decades. It's a fun trip down memory lane with a conservative message in Chapter 19 "Saving America". More
I began writing Americas Best of Times as a memoir for my granddaughter with hopes that she would enjoy the read and hopefully gain some insight into what America was like in the 50's and 60's. It soon became evident to me that America's greatness has lost a lot of its luster and as I began to piece together the events and cultural changes of that era in chronological progression the "hows" and the "whys" became more evident. The reader can enjoy the walk through the 50's and 60's and the memories of a happier, less stressful time through the eyes of a young boy as his family moves from Pasadena, CA to Rock Island IL and finally to Valley Forge, PA.
Chapter 19 "Saving America" offers my descriptive report on American politics and socialism directed toward America's youth, who I believe are the key to America's future. Many people say "Washington is broken". Its not broken. It is being run by the people the voters are sending to it. In this chapter I am making an effort to contrast two markedly different eras and educate the reader to the thoughts of the Founders, to the meaning and effects of socialism and liberalism, and to the need to educate our youth to the wide differences in political thought that exists. Simply put, when they vote for "change", they need to know what "change" they are getting.
The purpose of my story is to entertain, inform, and educate Americans to what is happening in this country and to encourage them to seek knowledge and understand what constitutes the fabric of today's politics and social change in order that they can take an active part in saving our country. My sincere hope is that parents and grandparents of teens use Chapter 19 "Saving America" as a tool for discussion and research on American politics.
