Treatment of Choice

Dr. Lauren McFadden and her husband Bryan build a resort-style home to provide rehabilitation to homeless teens facing traumatic disabilities. About Mary King

My name is Mary King. I'm a self-published novelist and independent freelance writer.

I began writing in 1997, one year after my husband suddenly passed away. For years I'd entertained the idea of creating a story like The McFadden Series, but never got around to putting anything on paper. (Yes, paper!) I'm a mom of five children, three of which have special-needs. In 1979, I graduated from Jacksonville University (FL) with a BS degree in psychology. My work experience includes a position in a rehabilitation center that primarily treated persons with spinal cord injuries and head injuries. I've also been a caregiver for much of my life, starting long before I became an adult.

I've progressed and gained quite a bit of experience over five decades. I'm older, but not quite a senior citizen. I still love to read, and I have a passion for research, especially physical rehabilitation medical issues. Classical music is at the top of my favorite pastimes list (I'm a violinist and organist), but I also like to cook and garden. Currently, I have two published novels, one published short story, and three (hard copy) published magazine articles. I also have around 240 published articles online. I'm working on my third novel, Complications, which I hope to have published by December 2014. My life is fairly routine, but far from bland. At present, I live in northwest Florida, with my youngest daughter.
